The normal strike coin in the pictures is included in this lot as I think it's a nice comparison.

This coin is a mis strike error. The coin was struck without the collar in place allowing the planchet (blank) to shift in position and be struck off centre. As the retaining collar wasn't in place, this resulted in a heavier strike, thinning the coin a little as it was allowed to spread out. The collar also imparts the milled edge, so the lack of collar means there is no milling.

This is the kind of error I find fascinating as it's not just about what it is, but how it happened.
