Reverse Design Inspiration
Created by Darryl Bellotti, an Indigenous artist of both Yamatji and Nyoongar descent, the design is inspired by his boyhood memories of a hunting trip in north-western Australia. The turtle is surrounded by patterns of dots, symbolising the hunters’ journey, and circles, representing the places where they stopped.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 , each coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination on its obverse.
