Antique Sovereign Scale in Brass.
The Sovereign in the pictures is not included in the sale, it's there to demonstrate how it works only. I do usually have a range of Sovereigns available for purchase.
Unsigned Brass Sovereign/Half Sovereign Scale. Marked as crown warranted, but I'm sure it wouldn't stand up to that now.
These types of scale were from a simpler time where replica's and fakes of the world's premier gold coin were easier to spot.
This scale incorporates a thickness (slot) check as well as diameter (recess) and finally weight. The theory was if the coin was the right thickness, diameter and tipped the scale, you're good to go. Unfortunately it's not quite as simple today.
This is not suitable for checking/trading today. This is being sold as a collectible item.

Why are users outbidding themselves?
When a bid is placed, this is the maximum amount a person is willing to bid for the product. Our system will then automatically bid on behalf of the bidder, incrementally increasing the bid up to the maximum to maintain their position as the highest bidder.
When there is an icon indicating 'Automatic Bid', it means our system is actively placing bids for the bidder based on their maximum bid. This may appear as if bidders are outbidding themselves, but it's simply a result of the system updating the bid to reflect the bidders maximum limit.
