Fauna Theme – Great White Shark

The coin's reverse depicts a Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) , the most feared predator in the sea. Capable of growing to over seven metres in length, its formidable array of triangular, serrated top teeth rip through prey skewered on its lower jaw. Often seen in Australian waters, this awesome creature is never far from the minds of swimmers and surfers. The year-date and The Perth Mint's traditional ‘P’ mintmark also appear in the design.

Australian Legal Tender

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 , the coins depict Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
