History recognises Antoninus Pius (Full Name Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Pius), as the fourth of the Five Good Emperors from the Nerva–Antonine dynasty. He was born into a senatorial family, which afforded him opportunities. Antoninus held various positions during the reign of Emperor Hadrian.
Hadrian adopted Antoninus Pius when he was 52 years old. At the same time, Marcus Aurelius (later becoming the 5th of the Five Good Emperors), who was 17 years old, was adopted by Antoninus Pius at the request of Hadrian.
