Hobo nickels were originally nickels (US 5 cent pieces) that were modified and carved. Today the term refers to a great many denominations from different countries, but they all follow the same format of being carved and engraved for a pastime. Today there are many talented coin carvers all over the world that engrave and carve coins from simple, low value coins through to very large silver coins.

Sweetheart Coins or Love Tokens were, and are, coins that have had one side machined or filed flat, then engraved with initials, monograms or scenes.
