Landmarks Theme – Hobart

The coin’s reverse depicts Hobart.  Established in 1804 to deter potential French colonial ambition, the capital of Tasmania retains an abundance of beautifully preserved buildings – including the port’s magnificent Georgian warehouses and the gorgeous 19th century residences at nearby Battery Point.

Coloured Reverse Design

The reverse portrays the Derwent River in colour, Hobart’s historic waterfront and a fishing boat, with Mount Wellington in the background. The design also incorporates the year-date and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Australian Legal Tender

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 , the coin depicts Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.

Uniquely Australian Packaging

The coin is housed in a superb presentation case with a lid made from Australian sheoak timber. The case comes in a protective outer shipper featuring Discover Australia's distinctive logo.
