Additional Notes: The 1700s Shakespeare tokens are 18th-century provincial tokens, often referred to as Conder tokens, produced in Britain during a shortage of official copper coinage. They were typically issued as halfpennies and commonly featured a profile of William Shakespeare on the obverse (front) and various designs on the reverse. These tokens were not official government coinage but were used as private currency by merchants during the late 18th century.
