In 1524, Babur invaded India, defeating the Sultan of Delhi in a great battle at Panipat (April 21, 1526). From his new capital at Agra, Babur issued broad, thin silver coins of about 4.6 grams called shahrukhi (named for Shah Rukh ruler of a central Asian empire who first issued them)
