Fauna Theme - Grey Kangaroo
The reverse of each coin depicts a mob of Grey Kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), one of many species of Australia's best known animal. Kangaroos are marsupials, a mammalian group that almost exclusively developed in Australia. In 1770, naturalist Joseph Banks recorded the aboriginal word 'gangaroo' to describe these beautiful creatures, which possess powerful hind legs for hopping and a pouch to carry their young. The year-date and The Perth Mint's traditional ‘P’ mintmark also appear in the design.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coins depict Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Uniquely Australian Packaging
Each coin is housed in a superb presentation case with a lid made from Australian jarrah timber. The case comes in a protective outer shipper featuring Discover Australia's distinctive logo.
